A bomb threat emptied the Fifth Street Food Lion in Charlottesville Tuesday evening.
Charlottesville police responded to the Food Lion located on the 1100 block of Fifth Street Southwest. They say a man called the store around 5 p.m., saying there was a bomb in the building and then hung up.
Food Lion management evacuated the store and notified police. When police arrived they secured the scene and brought in a bomb dog to sweep the building.
"Upon the scene we had the management ask that we have the appropriate staff to check the building. We reached out to a local K-9 bomb dog, brought the bomb dog in with our staff and did a search of the building for any devices found there," said Charlottesville Police Spokesman Ronnie Roberts.
After a thorough search, police did not find anything. They say there is no threat to the store or the community Tuesday night. The store decided to reopen its doors around 8 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing and police are urging anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
