City of Waynesboro Police Department MEDIA RELEASE
The Waynesboro Police Department is seeking a Staunton man in connection with a Christmas day vehicle pursuit that began in Waynesboro and ended in Rockbridge County.
Christopher Duane Woods, 27 years old, is wanted on two charges stemming from the incident, a felony eluding charge and a misdemeanor drive on a suspended license/5th offense. Woods is also wanted by the Augusta County Sheriff's Office for charges related to the vehicle pursuit.
On December 25, 2012 at approximately 4:30 AM, officers observed Woods in a 2007 Dodge Caliber on the Walmart parking lot. The business was closed for the holiday. The vehicle left and returned an hour later and remained parked on the property with the occupants inside.
When one of the officers checked the ownership of the vehicle through a state database, it registered there was an active warrant for the registered owner, Christopher Woods, for failing to appear in Augusta County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court on child support payments.
Before the officers could approach the vehicle, it drove away. The officers located the vehicle on Alston Court, which is in a residential neighborhood nearby, still occupied by Woods. When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, it accelerated out of the neighborhood disregarding the red light at Rosser Ave and Tiffany Dr.
The officers followed the vehicle onto Rosser Ave before it left the city limits and turned onto Ladd Rd. An Augusta County Sheriff's Department deputy located the vehicle at Ladd Rd and Tinkling Springs Rd and pursued it to White's Truck Stop in Raphine, VA where it crashed. Woods fled on foot.
Anyone with information on Woods' whereabouts is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at (540) 942-6675 or Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1(800)322-2017.
Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously. Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
