There was a renewed call Monday night to bring about a major change to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
Neil Williamson with the Free Enterprise Forum, a nonprofit organization that analyzes local government policy, says a discussion about adding a seventh member to the board should happen. Currently there are six supervisors who tend to be deadlocked on controversial issues.
"There are a number of entrenched interests that somewhat appreciate the logjam. It takes a lot to get anything done in Albemarle. Is that a good thing? I think that's a question for the citizens," Williamson said.
Williamson says the seventh member could be elected at-large as a chairperson. He also says most peer counties have an odd number of board members to prevent a tie.
