Rush to Find Babysitters on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year to find a babysitter. Many parents want to go out and celebrate but they have to search for somebody to watch the kids.

If you're still on the hunt for a babysitter on New Years Eve you might have to fork out some serious cash. But social media is making the hunt a little easier.

Kelly Marshall has been in the child care business for more than two decades and says social media is becoming a quick way for parents to find a sitter at the last minute. She's been asked as early as July to sit on the holiday.

"It can be a hunt, parents decide at the last moment that they have an opportunity to go out and be with family or friends or they've been planning something for a long time and it comes to fruition because they finally have found a sitter that will accept those hours," she said.

Marshall says a sitter can charge $15 to $25 an hour on New Years Eve depending on how many kids there are and how late into the night they're expected to stay.

ASAP Sitters, a Charlottesville company, says New Years Eve is one of its busiest nights of the year.

"Some people are very on the ball and booked their New Years Eve sitter in November," said Ewa Harr of ASAP Sitters. "But most families that book through us will give us about two weeks, maybe a week's notice."

Harr says the company has parents that wait until the last minute every year. She encourages her sitters to give the children a way to celebrate the New Year while mom and dad are out on the town.

"Sometimes our sitters will sit for a slumber party on New Years Eve the kids will have friends over so they'll have a little New Years Eve party with pizza and ice cream and stuff like that," Harr said.

ASAP Sitters currently has a few caregivers still available for Monday night.
