In Charlottesville, preparations are underway for First Night Virginia's New Years Eve celebrations.
On Sunday, crews set up the first of two large outdoor stages in front of the Main Street Arena on the downtown mall. One stage will hold a 65-inch plasma TV so the crowd can watch the Times Square ball drop at midnight. The inside of the arena will also be decked out for the party.
"We're setting up two mobile stages outside and then we're going to build two stages inside with audio, video drape it all up, put some lighting up, make it nice and pretty," said David Meckler, the production manager.
First Night events start at 3 p.m. Monday on the downtown mall. There will be live music, magic shows, comedy and performances.
