The UVA women's basketball team beat Norfolk State University 66-23 Friday at the John Paul Jones Arena to advance to the championship game of the Cavalier Classic.

The Cavalier defense held Norfolk State to just 6 points in the first half while forcing them to shoot a dismal 11.5 percent from the field.

UVA's Simone Egwu was 8-of-8 from the field and had a game high 16 points for the 'Hoos.

Egwu also brought in 4 rebounds.

Egwu said, "This is a confidence boosting game and I think we really needed it. I think we got back to some of the stuff...we were known for last year. So its definitely a game that we needed and I thought that we really executed."

Her teammate, Ataira Franklin put in a respectable 12 points for the Cav's.

Franklin said, "The most important thing for us is to just take pride in the fact that this is our tournament and this is our house and take care of business."

Norfolk State's 23 points was the second lowest point total by any opponent in the history of the Virginia basketball program. It only falls second to when UVA topped Mary Washington 41-19 back in 1975.

UVA takes on Xavier in the Championship game Saturday at John Paul Johns Arena at 7 p.m.
