Donations to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Decrease After Holidays

Posted: Updated: Dec 27, 2012 06:08 PM EST

The season of giving is wrapping up but the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank wants to keep it going year-round.

The food bank raised thousands of pounds of food during the holiday season, but just days after Christmas, donations plummeted by more than 80 percent.

They say while generosity is prevalent during the holidays, need is prevalent throughout the year.

"The need seems to never change. I think it's in everyone's heart to be generous at the holiday time but the donations significantly drop off after a holiday like Christmas and Hanukkah," said Joe Caputi with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

The statistics have not come in yet for how much the food bank raised this season, but they do say they were running behind what they raised last year.
