It's almost time for yet another holiday - New Year's Eve. The city of Charlottesville is gearing up for an annual family-friendly celebration that lasts most of the day.
First Night Virginia will be taking place on and around the downtown mall Monday. The events start at 3 p.m. and go until midnight.
Guests can purchase a wristband that will get them into all of the day's events. This year, there will be live music, magic shows, comedy and improv, among other performances. There will also be a "project creation station" where kids can make a craft to take home with them.
However, there is something new this year. Guests can get into the Discovery Museum on the downtown mall with a wristband starting at 1 p.m.
"It's a family-friendly, alcohol-free event and everything is really in walking distance so it's a couple blocks around the mall," said First Night President Drake Van de Castle. "It's a beautiful setting for people to come down."
You can watch the ball drop at the Main Street Arena and for the first time it will be displayed on a big screen outside so that everyone can enjoy. First Night Virginia will go on regardless of the weather because the events are indoors.
