Water Main Break Dampers Holiday Celebrations in Augusta
Many spend hours in the kitchen preparing a Christmas feast, but imagine being in the middle of cooking and losing water. That's what happened to some in Augusta County Tuesday.
A water main break in Augusta County Tuesday put a damper on many people's Christmas celebrations. Some have been without water since early Tuesday morning.
The water main break happened along Route 11 near Fort Defiance. People located between Verona Elementary School and Mount Sidney were affected by the break. The Augusta County Service Authority had crews out working on the scene for most of the day to restore service as fast as possible.
"It was a shock this morning, you know it's Christmas morning and it's kind of like ‘What, no water?' And a couple months ago we had our own water line in the house break so I was thinking like ‘oh gosh something's gone wrong' and it's like why didn't someone at least call, you know it's Christmas, no one's working, but it would have at least been nice to get the robo call," said Kim Helper of Augusta Country.
The Helper family did have some extra bottled gallons of water so it made it easier to cook and shower.
Crews on the scene have to first repair the line, then flush it before it can be used again. An email sent out earlier Tuesday said that it would take at least until late afternoon to fix the problem.
