The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation is considering buying the former Lee-Jackson Hotel.
But foundation executive director Denman Zirkle says there are some issues to be resolved before the group buys the building.
Zirkle tells The Daily News-Record that there are questions about the building's condition. The foundation plans to have an engineer analyze it and identify any problems.
The 10,000-square-foot building was constructed in 1807. Former Mayor Larry Smith last operated the building as a restaurant. The restaurant closed in 2009 and it's stood vacant since then.
Zirkle says the foundation would use the building as an office building and an orientation center featuring information on battlefields in the New Market area.
