As the countdown to Christmas winds down, some of Santa's helpers are still hard at work.
So called "layaway angels" are making stops at stores around the country - including the Kmart in Charlottesville. The angels are anonymous donors who come into the store and pay for holiday gifts that other customers may not be able to afford.
"The first one I remember having at this store, this gentleman had, his daughter was in the hospital at UVA getting serious surgery and he wanted to pay it forward," Gerri Clark, Kmart store manager, said. "And then it just kept growing every year. And now we have them every single day and it's thousands and thousands of dollars that they come and they pay off people's layaways."
The Kmart store manager says these acts of kindness mean more because they are anonymous.
