Virginia Tech Football Arrives in Orlando For Russell Athletic Bowl

Posted: Updated:

After many frigid practices down in Blacksburg, the Hokies have arrived in Orlando to take on Rutgers in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

The team had a meeting Sunday morning and then got to enjoy Universal Studios for the day - but tomorrow at 10:30 AM, the Hokies hit the practice field to gear up for their bowl game.

Virginia Tech is 6-6 and they are facing a program that has the longest active bowl winning streak.

Over the years, Virginia Tech hasn't fared well in the post season being that its last bowl game victory was in 2009.

After an up and down season, coaches and players say a win against Rutgers will define what this team is made of.

Head Coach Frank Beamer said, "you know to come back and win the last two bowl games. To be a united team. To have a team that didn't point fingers. Team that kept playing hard, had to play hard to win those last two and so that says something about people you know - things aren't right you can still hang in there."

Quarterback, Logan Thomas added, "We are a good offense...we can do it. There was times this year where we looked a little unstoppable then there's times where we just looked terrible and those are the times that we just want to get rid of the terrible times and we want to finish this season off on the right foot going into next year so we have something to built off. You know playing a game against a great defense - it'll do a lot for our confidence going into next year and it'll keep us excited about going into next year."
