'Hoos Fall 63-61 to ODU and Snap 8 Game Winning Streak

Posted: Updated:

The University of Virginia Men's Basketball team fell 63-61 to Old Dominion at the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic at the Richmond Coliseum.

Tevin Jones made a key shot in the final seconds of the game.

He was going for a 3 pointer that would've tied it up - but his foot was on the line and it only cut the deficit to one.

Jones said, "I was kind of rushed. I knew I didn't really have time to look down and see where my feet were so you know just being court smart you know I just stepped back. Thought I was behind the line but I guess I wasn't."

UVA immediately fouled to make up for it but the Monarchs edged the Cavaliers in the end.

UVA Head Coach Tony Bennett said, "We were undisciplined and broke down and they got to the front of the rim with the lay-up. We just were physical enough to get the offensive rebounds and we couldn't come up with a stop when we needed to. They were pursuing all night and they were physical. You know we just weren't executing the way we had to to beat that team."

This loss snaps the Wahoos 8 game winning streak.

UVA's only losses this season come from Colonial Athletic Association opponents - ODU (63-61), George  Mason (63-59), and Delaware (59-53).

Joe Harris had a respectable 18 points and has led Virginia in scoring in eight games.

Evan Nolte put up his fourth double-figure scoring game with a career high 15 points.

Nolte said, "It was a surprise that we lost. We didn't come out the way we wanted to definitely give credit to ODU - they played the way they wanted to and we didn't make the offensive and defensive plays that we needed to."

Senior point guard Jontel Evans was out for his 8th straight game with a foot injury.

The 'Hoos will be back in action Saturday, December 30th against Wofford.
