The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing for the traffic by lifting most lane closures on interstates and major roads to help holiday travelers stay on schedule.
The state will open all temporary construction lane closures at noon on Christmas Eve through noon on the day after Christmas.
VDOT is also warning drivers to watch the weather closely.
VDOT Spokesperson Lou Hatter stated, "I understand we may have a storm - perhaps the day after Christmas. So people need to look at the weather, not only where they are, but also where their destination along the way, just to make sure they know what they may be going into."
