Virginia Tops Morgan State 75-57, Extends Winning Streak to 8 Games

The University of Virginia men's basketball team (9-2) extended their winning streak to 8 as they took out Morgan State 75-57, Wednesday at John Paul Jones Arena.

Morgan State (3-5) cut Virginia's lead to 59-50 with 6:54 left in the game before the Wahoo's poured on the buckets and brought home the win.

UVA Head Coach Tony Bennett said, "In certain games you can get away with that. In certain games you can't. That thing got down to a single digit game and that's a lesson that we've talked about before. Don't accept a victory if you wouldn't in defeat. Again, its about quality basketball and battling each possession and in those stretches you could just see it on both ends of the floor and thats what was dissappointing but I said take that if you want but how good do you want to be? Thats the answer."

Evan Nolte ignited the surge by executing a 3 point play that started a 12-2 Wahoo run and the rest was history.

Akil Mitchell had 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the 'Hoos.

Darion Atkins had an impressive night as well. He added a career-high 17 points.

Atkins said, "I feel like in the very beginning we were pretty sound but towards the end of the game I felt like we were pretty unsound. We were losing the ball. We were pretty casual and losing our cool and we weren't really taking the game seriously because we knew we could beat the team from the beginning. So he [Coach Bennett] really gave it to us at the end of the game. He was pretty mad at us."

Joe Harris scored 14 for Virginia.

This is the Wahoo's first game following a 10-day lay off for final exams.

The 'Hoos will be back in action Saturday as they take on Old Dominion in Richmond at 5:30 P.M.
