Augusta Lawmakers Meet at Annual Legislative Breakfast

Posted: Updated:

A panel of Shenandoah Valley lawmakers shared its plans Wednesday for the upcoming general assembly session.

The event was the annual Legislative Breakfast, sponsored by the Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce. Among the issues on the table were funding for transportation and education and Virginia's role in the new health-care law.

Legislators say the looming fiscal cliff does not keep them from forging ahead.

"Hopefully there'll be resolution, some kind of resolution. It may not be what we want or what we hope for. Regardless, we can't just sit around and say it's Washington's fault. We're going to have to act," said Delegate Dickie Bell (R) Staunton.

The chamber also shared its positions on numerous state issues, including more funding for transportation and improvements for Interstate 81 without the use of tolls.
