More than a month after the polls closed, Virginia electors officially certified Barack Obama as the Presidential winner in Virginia.
The state's 13 Electoral College members cast their ballots inside the House of Delegates chambers in Richmond Monday. They joined electors in all 50 states as they formally recognized the outcome of the presidential election.
"Today, ever state in the country and D.C. are going through and doing this very same process of confirming their electoral votes," said Geoff Skelley, with the UVA Center for Politics. "So yeah, really the election is today."
There was a special artifact on display at the ceremony: the first ever electoral vote cast in Virginia, signed by the state's governor at the time, Patrick Henry.
