James Madison senior Rayshawn Goins scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as JMU beat UNC-Greensboro 85-73 Sunday at The Convocation Center.
Senior Devon Moore added a career-high 22 points, to go along with 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
The Dukes led 49-29 at halftime, but the Spartans cut the deficit to just 66-63 with 6:23 to go in the game.
Goins says, "We knew they were going to make a run, and we just wanted to be able to take their best punch. That's what we did. They punched us, and we punched them back. We were able to contain them. They were able to make shots, but at the end of the day we came up with the victory. I was just happy to get the win today."
Moore says, "My team was giving me great opportunities to make plays, and I'm just able to do it right now. We're playing one game at a time, and just trying to finish this (calendar) year 6-6, and get ready for the next year."
Head coach Matt Brady, "I think on balance, there were a lot of things we can do better in the 2nd half, but I think this is another step forward for our group. I feel like we're getting better. We're going to practice this week and try to get better yet again."
The Dukes improve to 4-6 on the season and they'll will take on San Jose State Saturday at a tournament in Las Vegas.
