Many 11-year-olds ask for toys on their birthdays, but one Charlottesville girl wanted to give of herself this year.
Jasmyne Mowry held a special feast for those in need on Saturday, to celebrate her upcoming 12th birthday. People came out to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Charlottesville and enjoyed live music and a hot meal. She says all she wanted for her birthday was to help those who are less fortunate.
"A few years ago we were actually, well we weren't on the streets but we were in a hotel…and we had to do something these people are doing and struggle every day, and now that I have a house and family who loves me I can do, give them something, so they can have something to remember," said Mowry.
Mowry says she's happy she got to give back during the holiday season because as a child she remembers not having a big Christmas meal.
