Changes are coming to Charlottesville's Belmont Bridge.
The design firm Site Works presented two potential schemes, to connect Belmont to the downtown mall, to the PLACE Design Task Force Thursday. One plan is a replacement bridge. The other is a passageway that would go under the train tracks.
"We'll take this input, we're going to meet with the city's bike/ped committee to hear what they have to say about it and then we're going to a bigger public meeting, get those comments, and then go to city council to see which concept they want to pursue," said Director of Neighborhood Development Services Jim Tolbert.
Both proposals include a pedestrian bridge, and designers hope they will lend to more community gathering space.
Tolbert says they want to present a design to the Charlottesville City Council within 60 days.
