One of the favorite traditions at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton is a story not written by the bard.
Wednesday's matinee performance of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" played out before a diverse audience of school groups and senior citizens. About 2,000 students came for afternoon showings of the holiday classic this year, and the Blackfriars Playhouse is the ideal venue for Scrooge's story of redemption.
Christina Sayer Grey with the American Shakespeare Center said, "There are so many opportunities for our actors to reach out and connect with the audience members who are sitting on stage on the Lord's Chairs, in the gallery... so many chances for the music and dancing and journey to be shared."
The nonprofit American Shakespeare Center also has a pair of holiday shows geared toward more mature audiences. Click here for details about all of the performances.
