Target Teams Up with United Way to Spread Christmas Cheer

Posted: Updated:

It's an annual tradition - Target teams up with the Thomas Jefferson Area United Way to spread Christmas cheer to a number of families in need.

It is also an annual tradition for NBC29 to go with the United Way crew for the expedition.  This year, we were off to Fluvanna County after picking up trees at the Target in Albemarle County.

Through the Share-a-Tree program, Target donated 10 trees to the United Way.  This year, the United Way chose Smart Beginnings to receive the gifts.

Trees were dropped off at three locations.  They will go to some child care providers in Fluvanna County as well as families and seniors in need of some holiday cheer.

Bertha Armstrong, rural outreach director for the Monticello Area Community Action Agency, said, "I think they're gorgeous.  I've never seen a tree like that before.  It's really nice."

"It means a lot to our team to be able to donate items such as this so that everyone can have a good holiday season," said Target Executive Team Leader Jennifer Henderson.

Armstrong says the need is tremendous all year round but certainly spikes this time of year.

All of those who received the trees were so grateful Tuesday.  The United Way has been distributing the trees for seven years.
