Senior Devon Moore missed a game-tying free throw with 23 seconds left in overtime, and James Madison lost 83-82 against Richmond Saturday at the Convocation Center.
Moore scored a game-high 19 points in defeat, and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
JMU took a 73-71 lead on a three pointer by Ron Curry with 32 seconds left in regulation, but Andrey Semenov fouled Cedrick Lindsay with 3 seconds to go, and the Spiders' junior hit two free throws to tie the game.
Semenov scored 18 points for the Dukes, while A.J. Davis added 13.
Head Coach Matt Brady said, "We're going to be in a lot of close games. We're going to win some of them, and we're going to lose some of them. I think we've gotten better. We played a really good team. We didn't play quite as well as the other team. I think we're going to get better at both ends of the court going forward. As long as we don't lose a number of guys due to injuries, I feel good about where we're headed."
JMU returns to action next Sunday at home against UNC Greensboro.
