James Kevin Key
The man accused in an attempted abduction at Fashion Square Mall will be back in court Monday.
Forty-six-year-old James Kevin Key of Palmyra will appear in Albemarle Charlottesville Juvenile Domestic Relations Court Monday for a bond hearing. Key is charged with felony abduction following an incident at Charlottesville's Fashion Square Mall.
On Saturday November 24, Key allegedly took a 2-year-old girl from her parents while at Fashion Square Mall. The girl's father was able to get her back and mall security detained Key. Security has been the subject of harsh criticism since the incident for not turning him over to police. They chose instead to escort him off mall property and police were contacted hours later.
A search warrant indicates that a witness saw Key try to take the girl from her parents identified him to police. The warrant also shows that police took Key's shoes and knit cap.
Key is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
