Every year around the holiday season, NBC29 plays a part in helping the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. It's the annual Helping Hands Against Hunger food drive, and it has helped more than 56,000 families.
But at this point, food donations are coming in slowly. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank's branch manager says they are still behind their goal.
Donations can be made at Kroger stores in Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley. Shoppers can purchase any item in the store to put in barrels outside the front of the store. From there, the food will go to families in need.
The food drive will continue until December 20.
