There are several events coming up in Charlottesville where kids and families can take part in holiday activities. That includes meeting Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and it's all taking place right on the Downtown Mall.
Celebrate 250 and the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville are hosting this year's Virginia Gingerbread Christmas. The mission is to provide old-fashioned, family fun to raise money for a children's charity, and to highlight local businesses.
The events take place over the next several days. There will be a chance to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, as well as their elves and helpers.
There will also be a gingerbread competition, and a chance to view a winter wonderland, complete with electric trains.
Part of the proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald house.
"If you come down and you look at those beautiful little faces, and you see those smiles and you see them talking to Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, and how excited they are, even with the Grinch, it's just so cute," said Event Organizer Morgan Perkins. "You just, your heart just melts."
The events kick off at the Omni Hotel in downtown Charlottesville Thursday at 4 p.m., with a sold out event to meet Mrs. Claus. The Gingerbread Village opens at 5 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
Santa will also be visiting the Gingerbread Village several times throughout the next few days.
