A new principal will be taking over the reins of Charlottesville High School later this month.
Principal Thomas W. Taylor will leave the city school system December 21 to take a job as superintendent of schools in Middlesex County.
During Taylor's time at the school, dropout rates have decreased and graduation rates have increased.
Charlottesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Rosa Atkins said, "The culture that has been developed here at our high school has been outstanding - our teachers and our parents and and our students, the relationships that have been built here are second to none, and Dr. Taylor has been instrumental in forging those relationships and building a strong high school."
Until Taylor's position is officially filled, William Clendaniel will take over as interim principal. Clendaniel comes to Charlottesville with three decades of teaching and administrative experience in northern Virginia.
