The Virginia Tech football team is going bowling for the 20th year in a row, as the Hokies have officially accepted the bid to play in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
VA Tech will take on Rutgers Friday, December 28th in Orlando.
The Hokies had gone to either a BCS Bowl or the Chick-Fil-A Bowl every season since joining the ACC, but finished as the third place team in the league this year.
The Scarlet Knights are 9-3, Co-Big East Champions, and winners of five-straight bowl games.
The Hokies (6-6) haven't lost against their former conference rival since 1992.
That's also the last season Tech had a losing record.
Head coach Frank Beamer says, "I was proud of the way we fought through, and won the last two games. This is kind of the one that can give you a winning season. The situations we've been in this year, it says a lot about the kinds in the program."
Junior quarterback Logan Thomas adds, "It doesn't say we're a middle of the road team. It says we're above a middle of the road team. I know we've above a middle of the road team anyway. We've had a couple tough losses. We haven't played our best games. 7-6 would be nice, especially the way the season has gone."
