A Charlottesville judge says a special election will be held to fill the role of city treasurer.
Earlier this week, Judge Edward Hogshire held a meeting to hear the pros and cons of holding a special election.
Last month, city council asked Hogshire to waive the requirement because the election would cost the city between $30,000 and $35,000.
The Jefferson Area Tea Party protested the idea of waiving the election. City republicans said they have a qualified candidate to run.
The election will be held on April 2.
