Annual 'Christmas House Tour' to Benefit Wayne Theater Alliance
Seven of Waynesboro's most gracious and distinctive homes have laid out the welcome mats. The event is the annual "Christmas House Tour" to benefit the Wayne Theater Alliance.
Saturday's tours offer an eclectic mix, ranging from a modern condo to a farmhouse built while Thomas Jefferson was president. There's even a fashion show in Waynesboro's newest downtown theater. All of it comes together for a common cause.
Every room in the Hashagen home is warm and welcoming, and certainly unique. Home tour participant Jeanne Hashagen said, "I would call my style very eclectic. I like to mix old things, family things, and things I've picked up at yard sales and flea markets... and refurbish."
Jeanne and Don Hashagen have their Oak Avenue house all decked out for the holidays and ready for Saturday's "Christmas Home Tour." Right across the street, the Chrisman-Sisson house is also signed up. Their motivation is to raise up to $3,000 for the Wayne Theater Alliance, with the goal to refurbish and reopen the downtown landmark.
"I can't wait for the theater to open," said Kent Chrisman, a home tour participant. "I'm so glad they were able to just recently refinance. They still need some money, though, in order to make it all a reality... so this is a small way of helping."
In addition to the Oak Avenue homes, visitors can tour five other distinctive properties, including the Belle Hearth Bed and Breakfast and the Plumb House, which dates back more than 200 years. The hosts have volunteered for the tours to share some hospitality and community pride.
Hashagen said, "I like to go on house tours and get ideas of things that I could do myself. So I try to do things that pretty much anybody could do, you know, with a little effort."
"It's good for the community to know that there are some fine houses in this community, and that Waynesboro has a lot to be proud of," said Chrisman.
In addition to the open houses, the Gateway Theater is hosting the "Holiday Fashion Showcase." Click here to find details on the tours and show.
