Albemarle County Circuit Court handed down a verdict in the Joseph Harris murder trial shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The jury unanimously found Harris not guilty on all charges.
Harris had been accused of the murder and robbery of 22-year-old Anthony Lorenzo Johnson. Johnson's body was found along Free Bridge Lane near Darden Towe Park in 2005.
Harris' trial started last month, but was postponed due to a judge's decision to allow a tape from a jailhouse snitch as evidence.
Harris started crying when the not guilty verdicts were read. The judge thanked the jury for its service, describing the group of four men and eight women as one of the most attentive juries the court has seen.
If convicted, Harris would have been facing two life sentences.
Although he was found not guilty Wednesday, he will remain in jail awaiting trial on unrelated drug charges.
