Tourism grants are headed to cities and counties across Virginia, and Waynesboro landed three of them.
The city of Waynesboro earned $5,000 for a campaign called ‘Roads and Towns Less Traveled.' The Tourism Association of Greater Waynesboro has picked up another $5,000 for marketing, plus another small award will help the Waynesboro Parks Department with its ExtremeFest.
The grants come from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. As a whole, the grants will promote Waynesboro as the perfect launching pad.
Clair Myers of Greater Waynesboro Tourism said, "Waynesboro in and of itself is not a tourist destination like Williamsburg, but it sits at the hub of this great circle of destinations."
The travel industry generated roughly $2 billion and 20,000 jobs in the Shenandoah Valley region last year.
