Restore UVA Campaign Online Auction Closes

Posted: Updated:

An online auction to raise funds to restore the rotunda at the University of Virginia closed Sunday afternoon.  Bidding ended at 5:30.

The auction was meant to highlight the best activities in Charlottesville and at the university.  Organizers say it was very successful with several bids on every item.

They expect to raise between $10,000 and $15,000 this time, and they're hoping to host an auction again in the spring.

Organizer Whit Hunter said, "What we're really looking for in the spring, we'd like this to be a twice a year platform, is for people to offer up new items or give us ideas for items that we can find - what are cool things we'd want to do at UVA or in Charlottesville to really highlight this community."

One of the most popular items of the auction was a 12-person dinner with UVA President Teresa Sullivan.  The highest bid for that was $925.  Other hot ticket items included thousands of dollars worth of antiques.
