Posted: Updated: Nov 25, 2012 05:33 PM EST

Albemarle County police are searching for a man who tried to snatch a child right out of her parents' hands at Fashion Square Mall.

The attempted abduction happened Saturday afternoon around 2:00.  Police say a 2-year-old girl was walking with her parents near Central Court when a man came up from behind and picked her up.  The girl's father ran after him and got his daughter back.

Investigators say mall security escorted the suspect off the property, but failed to contact police.  Police were contacted by the child's parents. Mall security had nothing to say to NBC29 when we called them Sunday.

If you saw this happen or have any information about the incident, call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
