The Virginia Tech football team is going to a bowl game for the 20th year in a row, thanks to the 17-14 win over the rival Cavaliers Saturday in Lane Stadium.
The two-decade long streak is currently the third longest in the nation, trailing only Florida State (31) and Florida (22).
A record of 6-6 overall, and 4-4 in the ACC is not what was expected of the Hokies.
Tech was ranked 16th in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll, and was picked to win the ACC Coastal Division.
The Hokies have played in the Orange Bowl and the Sugar Bowl the past two years.
They won't be going to a high-profile bowl this year, but the are going bowling, and they did beat Virginia for the 9th year in a row.
Quarterback Logan Thomas says, "We really needed to come together just to keep these streaks alive and I am so proud of the way we played to be able to do so."
"Coming into the game we knew everything that was on the table and I think that's how we performed," says cornerback Antone Exum.
Head coach Frank Beamer says, "The way the seasons gone, there's been some tough losses, and then the this team never stopped playing hard, and never stopped trusting each other."
