Hundreds Laced Up for Earlysville 5K Turkey Trot

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds turned out to do some trotting in Albemarle County.  About 600 people laced up their running shoes and pounded the pavement on this Thanksgiving morning for the Earlysville 5K Turkey Trot.

About 50 children also ran about a half mile of the course.  This is the fourth annual turkey trot in this part of Albemarle County.

"It's a good way to burn a few calories before Thanksgiving," said event organizer Kate Lucas.  "It's a great way to start off the morning for Thanksgiving with your friends and family - so something healthy and active together."

People were encouraged to bring food donations to the race.  The race benefits the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which is in need of extra donations this time of year.
