Staunton Firefighters Battle Early Morning Fire

Firefighters battled flames at an early morning house fire in Staunton Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called around 6:15 to an abandoned house at the corner of Market Avenue and Sunnyside Street. Crews say the fire gutted the house.

Because the house was empty, firefighters stayed outside to put out the fire.

Neighbors say no one has lived there for years, and that is partly why the Staunton fire chief believes the fire is suspicious.
