The UVa men's basketball team got a game high 17 points from Joe Harris in beating Lamar 63-44 in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Paul Jesperson added a career high 9 points. Akil Mitchell had 10 points and has scored in double figures in every game this season. Virginia held an opponent under 50 points for the third time this season.
Coach Tony Bennett said, "On the sidelines or the stands maybe it doesn't feel like it's close, but we're trying to keep building and play a certain way to give us a chance. I saw some good things. Paul obviously shot the ball well early, but I thought he gave us a nice lift on the glass and just was sharp so I liked what I saw in him. I thought that there was a stretch in the second half where we were up 24 or so and there were three or four moving screens and three turnovers that brought them back into the game. And those are things we talk about with our players, to play through those. We are still trying to find ourselves. I thought Teven gave us another nice lift as well."
Virginia will host North Texas Tuesday night at 7pm
