Charlottesville Yellow Cab wants to make it easier for you to grab a taxi. It's teaming up with Taxi Magic booking service to allow riders to hail a cab using a mobile app.
The app is simple. Users open it up and click "pick me up." The app uses GPS, so riders can track where their cab is and how long it will take to pick them up after they've hailed their ride.
"It really streamlines the whole process," said Charlottesville Yellow Cab owner Mark Brown. "You can call and order a taxi cab without having to talk to a dispatcher which is great because you don't have to wait on hold and if you're somewhere where you're not exactly sure where you are, your phone's GPS will transfer your location, so you don't have to know your exact location to get picked up."
The Taxi Magic technology was created by two University of Virginia graduates from Alexandria. It also allows riders to book taxis online and through text messages.
