Central Virginia Businesses Collect Toys for 'Mason's Toy Box'

Posted: Updated:

A Charlottesville woman who lost her son to cancer wants to brighten the holiday season for families who have children in the hospital.

Fourteen businesses in Scottsville, Albemarle County, Charlottesville and Richmond are collecting toys for "Mason's Toy Box."  Kelley Kassay says the program keeps her son Mason's memory alive.

"So many people did for us when we were going through our journey that I want to give back to the other children because I know how it is to be in that situation," Kassay said.  "And I want to be able to at least brighten their day or put a smile on their day."

The toys will be delivered to families at the University of Virginia Medical Center and hospitals in Richmond on December 20.  The drive is also collecting donations for gift catalogs that give parents a chance to pick something out for themselves as well.

James River Brewing Company in Scottsville is also having a benefit for "Mason's Toy Box" on Monday, December 3 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring Charlottesville's Burnt Mill Band.
