Relay Foods Partners with 3 Central VA Restaurants

Posted: Updated:

Relay Foods is partnering with a trio of central Virginia restaurants.  The Charlottesville-based company is expanding into major cities and trying to push the "local" movement.

Relay Foods is putting your favorite dishes from Charlottesville restaurants right into your own home.

Relay Foods Senior Vice President for Operations Mark Henderson said, "We basically provide all of the ingredients and consumers can take it home and prepare it in their own kitchens."

The online grocery service is partnering with C&O, The Local and Brookville Restaurant.  The Ready Relay Service got off the ground about three months ago as the company expands into new cities.

"I thought it was something really great to a) promote the local food movement and b) help get our brand out there," said Harrison Keevil, chef and co-owner of Brookville Restaurant.

Keevil says the kits are simple to put together.  His place offers up three meals including "Mom's Pork Chops."  And every morning he's in the kitchen working to put the spices and sides together for each order.

"So everything that's coming in is as fresh as it possibly can be," said Keevil.

Once the pieces come together at the restaurants, the raw pieces are assembled and placed in a box at Relay Foods' hub in Charlottesville.  There's even a recipe card with step-by-step instructions to make the 30-minute meal.

Henderson said, "It's another product we can offer our customers that has a local flavor."

A flavor, Relay Foods says, is getting rave reviews.

Relay Foods says it is working with restaurants in Richmond and would like to do a similar program in Washington D.C.
