The UNC Tarheels crushed UVA Football teams hopes to make it to a bowl game as they toppled the 'Hoos 37-13 Thursday night at Scott Stadium.
The point of no return came at the end of the 3rd quarter when Virginia was down 20-13 and going for it on 4th and 1 to tie the game up. They couldn't convert and turned the ball over on downs.
The Tarheels would then take the ball 97 yards downfield on 12 plays for a touchdown.
UNC quarterback Bryn Renner connected with Gio Bernard for a 23 yard pass. That touchdown would lift the 'Heels 27-13.
Drew Jarret's 28-yard field goal to make it 20-13 in the 3rd quarter would be the last time the Cav's scored.
Michael Rocco and Phillip Sims continued to alternate at QB. Rocco was 11 for 16 passes and threw 1 interception. Sims was 8 for 17, had 1 touchdown and had no interceptions.
Phillip Sims threw UVA's sole touchdown in the 2nd quarter when he connected with Darius Jennings on a 9-yard pass that cut the deficit to 14-10.
UVA was 2-15 on 3rd down conversions and had 17 first downs.
The 'Hoos will take on Virginia Tech next Saturday at Lane Stadium - the kickoff time is TBA.
