The city of Charlottesville and Republic Services teamed up for the first annual America Recycles Day at Central Place on Charlottesville's downtown mall.
The goal of the event was to educate and motivate people to make recycling a bigger part of their lives.
Republic Services, the city's recycling partner, offered ways to make recycling easier for people. Event attendees were encouraged to take a pledge to recycle more.
Organizers say they are here to make people aware of the different ways to be green and are excited to bring a national event to the city of Charlottesville.
Republic Services manager Dave Aikman said, "We want to make sure that everyone understands and knows that in order to properly recycle you need to keep your recycling bins separate from your trash and that's what we are here to promote in single stream recycling."
This event is just another step in reaching Charlottesville's 2025 vision statement of having a ‘green' city.
