Western Albemarle and Monticello Prep for Playoff Rematch

Posted: Updated:

One of the biggest high school playoff games will take place Friday night as Western Albemarle plays host to Monticello in the Region 2, Division 3 semifinals.

Western crushed Monticello 28-0 in the only game the two teams played during the regular season.

Monticello junior lineman, Adam Hill said, "it did bother me. Oh yeah - I want some revenge. I mean we didn't come out and play very well the first game this year but this time we bring a lot to the table so its not gonna be like last game."

Monticello Head Coach, Rodney Redd added, "I did see a good Western Albemarle football team but I also saw a Monticello team that absolutely did not execute. So the focus is definitely on us. Not on them or anyone else."

Monticello senior corner back, Willie James agreed. James said, "It was pretty bad. I have just a lot of anger and frustration. We pretty much beat ourselves. We didn't lose it. We beat ourselves. We just gotta come back for the second game and do it again."

Senior Wide Receiver, Chase Phillips added, "We just didn't play our best game. We've come together as a team now so I think we can definitely handle them this time."

Western Albemarle isn't letting the last time the two teams meet fog their memory. Warrior Linebacker, Safety, and Wide Receiver, Daniel Kuzjak, said, "Your always thinking about that first game and going back to memories from that first game but our coaches have prepped us all week and said this is a different team then what we saw the first week. We aren't taking anything for granted and thinking this will be an easy game."

Senior defensive end, Patrick Greer added, "I'd rather save the trash talk for after the game because that's where the best you can do - is outplay them. They are a solid team. We have some anger or revenge because they ended our season last year and beat us in the playoffs."

The two teams will square off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Western Albemarle high school.
