Affidavits in Attempted Abduction Case Show Suspect's Intent

Posted: Updated:

There's more evidence coming out about how close a University of Virginia student came to real trouble when she fought off an attempted abduction along Stadium Road last Friday around midnight.

Shortly after the incident, 26-year-old Matthew Rene Beaulieu was charged with felony abduction and attempt to defile.

In search warrants, police investigators say Beaulieu had handcuffs, duct tape and a butcher knife in the car with him.  That knife apparently came from the kitchen of UVA's Runk Dining Hall, where Beaulieu was an employee.

In the probable cause statement, police detail Beaulieu telling them he was angry about getting dumped by a girlfriend and that's what prompted the attempt to grab a woman. He also reportedly told police he planned to rape her and "keep her for a few days", but denied plans to kill her.

Beaulieu is being held without bond in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
