Trampoline-Bouncing Marathon Raises Money for Food Pantry

Posted: Updated:

Thanksgiving is coming soon, and many people will not be able to provide a big feast for their families.  A Nelson County brewery is doing its part to put turkeys on tables for the less fortunate.

Devil's Backbone Brewing Company is having a 24-hour trampoline-bouncing marathon. They are raising money to help the Nelson County Food Pantry buy turkeys for people in need.  Organizers say the need for the Nelson County Food Pantry has increased by 50 percent over the last year.

Volunteers started bouncing for turkeys at 6:00 Monday morning and will jump around the clock until 6:00 Tuesday morning.  Volunteers will be bouncing in 20-minute increments.

Ruthann Strickland is celebrating her 38th birthday by bouncing 10 minutes for each year she has been alive. She will be bouncing for just over six hours.

Strickland said, "The folks here at Devils Backbone are like a family to me and I feel like Thanksgiving is family, so we have an opportunity to come together and unite as a family and raise money for families to have a wholesome Thanksgiving dinner."

Brewery owners say it is a fun way to help the community and they hope to raise $5,000. As of 6:00 Monday afternoon, they say they are about halfway to their goal and hope to meet it by Tuesday morning.
