Rocco's Hot Hand Helped Lift Cav's Over Miami 41-40

Posted: Updated:

The Cavaliers used their quarterback rotation to success again this week but junior Michael Rocco had the hot hand in the teams last minute 41-40 win over Miami Saturday.

Rocco threw 18 consecutive passes and broke a school record.

Rocco said, "I had no idea until I came out after a victory."

This is an accomplishment he isn't sure he even reached back in high school.

On top of throwing four touchdown passes, the junior completed 29-of-37 passes for 300 yards.

UVA Head Coach Mike London (4-6, 2-4 ACC), said, "he's very deserving. Great teammate... I think he and Jake McGee are best friends - that's probably why Jake McGee got so many catches - because he's looking out for his best friend."

His best friend was right there when UVA needed him most to catch the game winner that sealed the Cavalier victory.

McGee said, "Mike waited for me. I got off a little jam and then he put it where I could catch it and I was able to come down with it."

Both Rocco and Sophomore Phillip Sims continued to alternate at QB for the Cavs.

Sims completed 11-of-14 passes for 88 yards, and also ran for a touchdown against Miami.

But Coach Mike London says its about the team win - not whose in the pocket. London said, "Michael's done an outstanding job the last couple of games and we talked about how selfless he is. He's a team player and he wants to win. He has a great relationship with Phil. No one cares about who gets the credit."

While Rocco soaks up this victory - He already has his eyes set on North Carolina. Rocco said, "The last wins always the nicest and especially in this fashion. I'm excited. I'm proud of our guys and I'm ready to go out there and get another one next week."
