Charlottesville Area Transit Riders Rally for More Routes
Charlottesville Area Transit riders are rallying for more bus routes in Albemarle County.
Members of the Transit Riders Association gathered Saturday afternoon in front of the Albemarle County Office Building at the intersection of Preston Avenue and Ridge-McIntire Road. They held signs demanding the county increase its funds for the CAT budget.
One member, Brandon Collins, says the goal is to get additional bus routes servicing high growth areas in Albemarle. "It's going to come with a price tag and we feel like the county has not paid enough into the system and we can't just rely on Charlottesville to provide the bulk of the funding," he said.
The group says Albemarle County currently contributes 11 percent of the CAT operating budget, which is less than the percentage of the budget covered by riders paying their bus fares.
