UVA Tops La Salle 4-1 In First Round of NCAA Tournament Play

The No. 2 UVA Women's soccer team kicked off their run for an NCAA title with a 4-1 win over La Salle at Klockner Stadium Friday night.

Junior forward Gloria Douglas led the Cav's with one goal and two assists. Caroline Miller and Kate Norbo each had a goal and an assist on the night.

The 'Hoos didn't waste any time placing a goal in the net. Miller got things started for UVA as Erica Hollenberg found her inside of the box. Miller nailed the ball to far post to put away her 17th goal of the season.

The Cavaliers went up 2-0 just before half off a passing sequence. Norbo connected with Douglas who found Morgan Brian. Brian placed found the net and tacked on her fourth goal of the season.

La Salle cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 59th minute of play off a free kick.

But UVA struck back in the 78th minute. Miller crossed the ball toward the far post and Douglas deflected it for her 5th goal of the season.

The final goal of the game would come off a pass from Morgan Stith to Norbo at the penalty marker. She turned and fired in her 5th goal of the season.

Virginia will host the second and third round of NCAA's next Friday and Sunday at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers will face the winner of Saturday's Colgate-Rutgers game Friday.
