School Bus Driver Dies After Accident in Culpeper County

A school bus driver is dead after an accident in Culpeper County Friday morning. 

The sheriff's department says 70-year-old Jerry Heddings had a health issue behind the wheel and crashed into a ditch. 

The bus was headed to Eastern View High School.  None of the seven students on board were injured.

Heddings was later pronounced dead at Culpeper Regional Hospital.

At 6:52 a.m. deputies responded to a school bus accident at 8516 Kirtley Trail.

The bus was traveling North along the roadway when the bus driver, a 70 year-old male, reportedly suffered from a health-related issue.

The bus traveled off the left side of the roadway into a ditch.

There were no injuries to the seven Eastern View High School students on board. Students were picked up by parents or others from the scene of the accident.

The driver, Jerry W. Heddings, 70, of Reva, was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
